A driver of my learning

Kia ora,

This week's chat is all about driving your learning.  We here at Kidsedchatnz want to find out how you or your teacher personalises your learning and helps you drive your own learning.  What happens in your class currently or what you would like to happen in your class.

If you get a chance watch this video about kids taking charge of their learning or student agency, or hackschool (an oldie but a goodie)

1. Describe your classroom (how many students/teachers/teacher aides, single room or ILE, breakout spaces, devices). Great opportunity to share photos.

2. Think about your normal day, what choices do you have as a learner during the day?

3. Share how you know what your next steps are in either Reading, Writing, or Maths. (Great photo opportunity)

4. Do you think knowing your next steps helps you with your learning? If so how? Can you give an example?

5. As a learner what motivates you to learn something new?

6. What are some of the barriers or blocks that stop you from becoming a successful learner?

7. Sometimes we get stuck with our learning and have to problem solve. What does good problem solving look like?

8. Describe the 'perfect' day of learning for you, how would you day be organised?

9. What does personalised learning or student agency mean to you?  What would it look like in your class?

Looking forward to seeing you all on Friday.

Digital Competence and Digital Citizenship

Kia koutou,

Welcome to the Week Four chat.  This week we are exploring Digital Competence and Digital Citizenship.

In your classroom your learning is becoming more blended and seamless between on-line and off-line learning.  We here at Kidsedchatnz want to hear how you are managing this in your classroom and what skills you need to have to be successful.

"Being digitally competent is more than being able to use the latest smart phone or computer software — it is about being able to use such digital technologies in a critical, collaborative and creative way."(The European Digital Competence Framework for Citizens)

"Digital Citizenship can be understood as the skills, knowledge, and values required to be an effective, ethical and safe user of ICT."

To support this weeks chat:

Digital compass is an animated online game to develop digital citizenship skills (yr6-8).

Privacy Pirates is another game to promote staying safe online.

1.What skills do you think you need to be digital competent?

2.How do you search for information online?  What skills do you need to have to be successful?

3.How do you share your online learning with your; peers, teacher, whanau?

4.Do you share you online learning with other classrooms?  If so how and are there any rules your class follows?

5.When you are creating content online, explain what you should do when you want to use other peoples content?

6.What do you do in your classroom to promote being safe online?

7.What are some important things to consider when taking part in Kidsedchatnz?

8.What do you think it means to be a responsible digital citizen?

9.How do you check if the information you view online is reliable or trustworthy?

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Friday 24th, 11:30-12:30
